Local news station did a story: Hollywood comes to Cincinnati as movie crews film in local park on the Rise Above the Rims movie that I am working on.
CINCINNATI (WKRC) — Laurel Park in Cincinnati’s West End neighborhood is experiencing a touch of Hollywood as crews film “Rise Above the Rims.”
The production tells the story of two young basketball players navigating the challenges of street life, family struggles, and hidden secrets. Joshua Franklin, the executive producer and a Cincinnati native, said the story is loosely based on his own life experiences.
“It’s actually a story of me growing up and challenges in my neighborhood and things I saw dealing with my friends. So, that’s what drove me to write this story,” Franklin said.
Actor Jarrell Pyro Johnson expressed his enthusiasm for the project.
“Yeah, I saw Josh, who was reaching out, and I have this thing that no matter how many feature films I do for major productions, I always want to give back to the up and coming producers and directors and creators. So, I saw this film, I saw the story, saw the message and I said, ‘I’ve got to be a part of it,’” said Johnson.
The crew plans to continue filming in Cincinnati for the next eight days.
